Bygge og Bolig, 1929, by Ib Andersen

This 1929 poster by Danish artist Ib Andersen was created to promote the "Bygge og Bolig" (Construction and Housing) exhibition in Copenhagen. The artwork features a cutaway view of a modernist interior, showcasing a room with a vibrant yellow floor and a bold red wall. Through the windows, a monochromatic cityscape is visible, rendered in a style reminiscent of Bauhaus aesthetics. The composition is framed by architectural elements and incorporates typography that integrates with the geometric design.

The "Bygge og Bolig" exhibition aimed to present contemporary advancements in architecture and housing design to the Danish public. Notably, the event featured the "House of the Future," a visionary model home designed by architects Arne Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen, which exemplified innovative building techniques and modern living concepts.

Ib Andersen (1907–1969) was a prominent Danish illustrator and graphic designer. Trained as an architect at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, he transitioned to graphic arts early in his career. From the mid-1920s until 1960, Andersen produced regular illustrations for "Politiken," a leading Danish daily newspaper, establishing himself as a household name. His work is characterized by a distinctive style that often incorporates elements of Cubism and Bauhaus.
