This 1936 poster, attributed to artist Walter Thomas, promotes the French Line's transatlantic service from Southampton to New York aboard the luxurious ocean liners Île de France and Normandie. During the 1930s, the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique (CGT), commonly known as the French Line, was renowned for its prestigious transatlantic crossings. The SS Normandie, launched in 1935, was celebrated for its speed, luxury, and innovative design, including lavish interiors by prominent French designers.
Walter Thomas (1894–1971) was a British artist known for his maritime illustrations and poster designs. Specializing in depicting ocean liners, Thomas's work is characterized by meticulous attention to detail and a keen sense of composition, effectively conveying the grandeur of the vessels he portrayed.

Natural Pine Frames
Our wooden poster frames are made from durable natural pine wood and come ready to hang. The frames measure 23mm thick by 12mm wide and feature art-quality, shatterproof plexiglass to ensure safe shipping (no glass). Remember to peel off the protective film before you hang!
