Internationale Tentoonstelling Klank en Beeld, 1932, by Johannes Bernardus Wiebenga
This striking poster uses a minimal palette of red, yellow and black to dramatic effect, depicting a stylised human head in profile, receiving visual and auditory signals — abstracted beams of sound and light entering ear and eye. Designed to promote the Internationale Tentoonstelling Klank en Beeld (International Exhibition of Sound and Image) in Amsterdam’s RAI building, the layout features bold, dynamic typography and a confident use of geometric forms.
Held in May 1932, the exhibition celebrated the convergence of visual and auditory media — from gramophones, radio and early television to sound film, music and photography. This was a time of rapid technological innovation, with sound cinema still in its infancy and domestic broadcasting on the rise.
The artist, Johannes Bernardus Wiebenga (1905–1987), was a Dutch graphic designer active during the interwar period.

Our restoration process is detailed and precise but, because this artwork was never created digitally and no original digital file exists, some slight imperfections may remain when viewed up close, including some slightly blurred edges. Natural Pine Frames
Our wooden poster frames are made from durable natural pine wood and come ready to hang. The frames measure 23mm thick by 12mm wide and feature art-quality, shatterproof plexiglass to ensure safe shipping (no glass). Remember to peel off the protective film before you hang!
