Las Vegas, 1950, by David Klein

This vibrant 1950 poster by David Klein was created for Trans World Airlines (TWA) to promote air travel to Las Vegas. The composition features a dynamic collage of iconic Las Vegas imagery, including stylized showgirls, neon signs, and casino elements, all rendered in bold colours and energetic lines. The central figure of a glamorous showgirl, adorned with a feathered headdress, captures the allure and excitement of the city's entertainment scene. Above her, the TWA logo and a sleek illustration of a Lockheed Constellation aircraft emphasize the modern convenience of air travel to this bustling destination.

In the post-World War II era, Las Vegas experienced rapid growth as a premier entertainment hub, attracting visitors with its vibrant nightlife, casinos, and live performances. Airlines like TWA capitalized on this boom by offering direct flights to the city, making it more accessible to tourists nationwide.

David Klein (1918–2005) was an American artist renowned for his influential work in advertising, particularly in the realm of travel posters. After studying at the Art Center School in Los Angeles, Klein became a prominent member of the California Watercolor Society in the 1930s. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, producing illustrations for the armed forces. Post-war, Klein moved to New York City, where he became a sought-after illustrator for Broadway productions before gaining acclaim for his series of vibrant travel posters for TWA in the 1950s and 1960s.
