Lago di Garda Riva-Torbole, 1936, by Giuseppe Riccobaldi del Bava

This 1936 travel poster by Giuseppe Riccobaldi del Bava presents the idyllic charm of Lago di Garda, Italy’s largest lake, through an elegant Art Deco composition. The scene is dominated by the striking clock tower of Riva del Garda, rendered in soft beige and orange tones, flanked by traditional sailboats with rust-coloured sails. The interplay of light and shadow, combined with the serene blue gradient of the water and sky, evokes a sense of tranquillity and timeless beauty. The sleek typography and geometric balance are hallmarks of Riccobaldi's refined modernist style.

Riccobaldi del Bava, known for his collaborations with ENIT (Italian National Tourism Agency), created posters that celebrated Italy’s cultural and natural wonders during the interwar years. This piece highlights Riva-Torbole, a picturesque area on Lake Garda renowned for its Mediterranean climate, historic architecture, and vibrant sailing culture. The poster reflects the 1930s' emphasis on promoting domestic travel as part of Italy's economic and cultural revival under the Fascist regime.
