Rhythmic Arches, by Shigeo Fukuda

This striking design by Shigeo Fukuda features a rhythmic series of black arches receding into the distance on a bold red background. At the base of each arch, a single black boot or shoe emerges, creating a subtle yet dynamic interplay between repetition and surprise. The minimalist palette and sharp contrast lend the composition a sense of depth and intrigue, characteristic of Fukuda’s work.

Shigeo Fukuda was a master of visual puns and optical illusions, and his posters often carried a dual meaning or playful twist. This design highlights his ability to distil complex ideas into bold, minimalist forms while maintaining a sharp sense of wit. Active during the 20th century, Fukuda gained global recognition for redefining poster art, blending Japanese simplicity with Western influences. His work played a key role in elevating graphic design to a fine art form.
