Norway, 1957, by Claude Lemeunier

This travel poster features four prominent red skis standing upright in the snow, forming the N in 'Norway'. Their long shadows stretching diagonally across the scene. The bright red contrasts against the pale blue sky and the soft pastel tones of snow-covered mountains in the background. To the right, a lone skier dressed in blue descends the slope.

Created in 1957 for the Norwegian State Railways and Norway Travel Association, the poster reflects the post-war growth in international tourism and Norway's branding as a hub for skiing enthusiasts. Claude Lemeunier, a French graphic artist, is known for his bold use of colour and stylised simplicity in travel advertising.

We've carefully remastered this print to make it available for you to enjoy. Our restoration process is detailed and precise but, because this artwork was never created digitally and no original digital file exists, some slight imperfections may remain when viewed up close, including some slightly blurred edges. To preserve its quality, we only offer it in sizes up to A2. Please do check the final product photo carefully and ensure you're happy before purchasing.

Claude Lemeunier

Claude Lemeunier (1928–2011) was a distinguished French painter and graphic artist. Born in Antoigny, Normandy, he trained at the École des Beaux-Arts de Versailles, where he won the prestigious Premier Prix d’Académie for painting, drawing, and sketching. His career flourished as he explored both urban and rural landscapes, capturing them in oil pastels and other media with a keen eye. Lemeunier gained international recognition for his 1957 travel poster for the Norwegian State Railways, which remains a collector’s item. His work was widely exhibited, including at the Salon d’Automne, Salon de Mai, and the Salon des Indépendants, and he received several accolades, such as the Médaille d’Argent de la Société des Arts, Sciences & Lettres in 1963 and the Prix de Barbizon.
