This composition is dominated by a bright red Ferrari Formula 1 car, speeding through a corner. The driver, wearing a white helmet and goggles, grips the wheel as he navigates the circuit’s narrow streets. A second race car, painted in black and yellow, follows closely behind. The background showcases the unmistakable Monaco skyline, with modern high-rise buildings set against the dramatic cliffs, a palm tree swaying over the track, and the shimmering Mediterranean harbour dotted with yachts.
The Monaco Grand Prix is one of the most prestigious races in motorsport, first held in 1929 and becoming a staple of the Formula 1 World Championship in 1950. The 1965 event was notable for being won by Graham Hill, who earned his third Monaco victory on his way to becoming one of the most celebrated drivers of his era. The street circuit’s tight corners, elevation changes, and lack of runoff areas make it one of the most challenging in the world.
Michael Turner (born 1934) is one of the most respected motorsport and aviation illustrators of the 20th century. His work is renowned for its attention to technical detail and dynamic composition, making him a favourite among collectors and racing teams alike. He has created official artwork for numerous Formula 1 teams and manufacturers, including McLaren, and was involved in designing the team's early livery. Turner is a founding member of the Guild of Motoring Artists.
