Schweizerische Städtebau, 1928. by Niklaus Stoecklin

This poster by Niklaus Stoecklin uses bold geometric shapes and typography to promote the Schweizerische Städtebau-Ausstellung (Swiss Urban Planning Exhibition) held at the Kunsthaus in Zürich from 4th August to 2nd September 1928. A massive "Z," representing Zürich, dominates the composition, with its diagonal stroke forming a sleek, blue ribbon inscribed with the event's details in clean, sans-serif lettering.

Created in 1928, this poster coincides with a period of rapid urbanisation and modernist innovation across Europe. The exhibition it advertises focused on urban planning solutions for growing cities, showcasing contemporary designs and ideas for efficient, structured living spaces. Niklaus Stoecklin, a Swiss graphic designer and a pioneer of the Sachplakat (object poster) style, was renowned for his ability to distil complex themes into simple, impactful visuals. His work here exemplifies the rational and functional design ethos of the modernist movement.
